Director Of Communications at Revolution Brewing Chicago

John Carruthers has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries. John has recently worked at Revolution Brewing Chicago since 2018, where they began as a Communications Manager and is currently serving as the Director of Communications. In this role, they manage a team overseeing brand style, messaging, social media, digital advertising, and internal communications. John also handles project strategy and management for outsourced projects and runs a charitable giving program.

Prior to their work at Revolution Brewing, John owned and operated Crust Fund Pizza since 2020, where they made and sold pizzas while raising funds for community organizations.

Before their foray into the food industry, John worked as a Food Columnist and Theater Critic at Newcity from 2014 to 2018.

In addition, John gained experience in content creation and communication strategy as a Senior Content Designer at Morningstar from 2014 to 2018. During this time, they collaborated with colleagues worldwide and edited content for consistency.

Earlier in their career, John served as an Assistant Editor at the American Academy of Dermatology from 2006 to 2014. John was responsible for news reporting, participated in an editorial overhaul process, and guided publication site redesign efforts.

John also gained experience in editing and reporting as the Technology and Gaming Editor at Co-Ed Magazine in 2006 and as a Reporter at The Molokai Island Times from May to September 2006.

Lastly, John started their career as a Reporter and Columnist at The Daily Beacon from 2003 to 2006, where they also held positions as the Editor in Chief and Entertainment Editor.

John Carruthers obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where they attended from 2002 to 2006. John then pursued a Master of Arts degree in Public Relations and Advertising at DePaul University, which they completed with distinction from 2007 to 2009. In addition to their formal education, John has also obtained various certifications. John became a Certified Cicerone and a Certified Beer Server through the Cicerone Certification Program in July 2017 and February 2017, respectively. Furthermore, they obtained a certification in "The Science of Gastronomy" through Coursera in August 2013, and completed "Hot Dog University - The Art of the Cart" certification program offered by Vienna Beef in May 2013.
