Shawn Steward

Shawn Steward has an extensive work experience in the field of software engineering and development. Shawn began their career at Applied Systems, Inc. in 2004 as a Senior Multimedia Developer, designing Flash and Authorware templates. Shawn later became the Webmaster, responsible for company websites and marketing microsites.

In 2009, Shawn joined Applied Systems as a Web Developer, focusing on ASP.Net and VB.Net development. Shawn then progressed to become a Lead .Net Developer, working in an agile scrum team and managing a four-person development team. During this time, they helped design, develop, test, and deploy cloud-based solutions for internal and external customers.

Shawn joined Redbox in 2012 as a Senior Software Engineer. Here, they worked on a highly efficient agile development team, writing production code in C# and utilizing Test Driven Development principles. Shawn also automated change control workflows to improve team efficiency.

In 2014, Shawn joined SpringCM as a Senior Software Engineer, specializing in C# development with a focus on performance and scalability enhancements. Shawn introduced Test Driven Development and pair programming practices to the team and successfully rewrote a custom Word and XML merge engine.

Currently, Shawn is working at Rewards Network. Shawn started as a Principal Software Engineer in 2014 and progressed to become the Director of Engineering and Senior Director of Engineering. In their roles, they have been responsible for partner dining websites and led the transition to a reactive programming platform using Scala, Play Framework, and Akka.

Shawn Steward attended the International Academy of Design from 2008 to 2009, where they pursued an Associates of Science in Web Design. During their time there, they focused their studies on Web Design and Web Development. Prior to that, from 1994 to 1997, they attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, although no specific degree was specified. Their field of study during this period was Accounting.
