Alex Ryer, CFA, FRM, CAIA has a diverse work experience spanning multiple roles and companies. Alex is currently the Chief Investment Officer and Partner at RhumbLine Advisers, where they lead and mentors the investment staff, develops client solutions, and optimizes the investment process. Prior to this role, they served as the Director of Investments at RhumbLine Advisers, responsible for acquiring and retaining clients while overseeing portfolio management and trading.
Before joining RhumbLine Advisers, Alex worked at BlackRock as a Senior Quantitative Analyst, where they performed quantitative research for a range of equity strategies and collaborated with fundamental managers and analysts to build customized quant models.
Alex also had a significant tenure at Northern Trust Asset Management, where they held various positions including Senior Portfolio Manager in the Fundamental Active Equities Group, responsible for fundamental company research and valuation modeling. Alex also served as the Vice President, Portfolio Manager/Trader, managing international index funds and actively trading stocks, futures, and currencies.
Prior to Northern Trust, Alex worked as a Senior Portfolio Manager/Trader at RhumbLine Advisers and as a Principal at State Street Global Advisors (SSgA).
Alex began their career at Katahdin Investment Partnership, LLC, as an Associate Director involved in strategic business planning and investment banking consulting. Before that, they served as the Vice President of Research & Development at International Light Technologies, a photonics company.

Alex Ryer, CFA, FRM, CAIA, obtained a BSEE degree in Electrical Engineering from Bucknell University, where they studied from 1985 to 1990. Alex later pursued an MBA in Finance at the UNH Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics, completing it from 1996 to 1999. To further enhance their professional qualifications, Alex earned the CFA designation from the CFA Institute in June 2002, the FRM designation from the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) in March 2008, and the CAIA certification from the CAIA Association in March 2009.
