Jean-Marc Ruest has extensive work experience in the field of law and corporate affairs. Jean-Marc started their career as a lawyer at Great-West Life in 1996, where they worked for a year. Jean-Marc then joined Fillmore Riley LLP in 1997, where they also worked as a lawyer for five years. In 2002, Ruest joined Richardson International as a Director of Legal and Industry Affairs, and later became the Assistant Vice-President of the same department. Jean-Marc further progressed within the company and served as the Vice-President, Corporate Affairs and General Counsel from 2007 onwards. In 2013, Ruest was promoted to the position of Senior Vice-President, Corporate Affairs and General Counsel at Richardson International.

Jean-Marc Ruest completed their education in a chronological manner. Jean-Marc began their academic journey at St. Boniface University from 1987 to 1990, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Political Science. Following this, they enrolled at the University of Ottawa for their Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree, which they completed from 1990 to 1993. Finally, they pursued further studies at the University of Cambridge from 1993 to 1994, where they obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in International Commercial Law.
