Enterprise Architect

Full-time · England, United Kingdom

Job description

Role: Enterprise Architect

Location: Milton Keynes / Hybrid (3 days a week working from home)

Reports to: Head of Architecture

The role

We are looking for an Enterprise Architect, to help define and drive forward the technology strategy behind Rightmove’s internal business processes, from sales automation and order fulfilment to pricing, billing management, and customer support.

You will be experienced in breaking down enterprise processes into component parts and defining solutions that integrate with existing systems, allowing both process and technology to evolve to meet future needs. Ideally you will have worked as an enterprise architect on highly distributed platforms consisting of both bespoke built applications and industry standard software. More importantly you thrive from bringing a hands-on approach to the role, eager to work alongside product team engineers implementing solutions, and working directly with technology providers.

The Architecture team works closely with Product & Platform Reliability and Engineering teams to ensure our application delivery platform supports the scale, security and resilience required while being agile enough to allow continuous releases of new functionality

What you’ll be doing

  • Contributing to the technology strategy, with a focus on business process evolution, agreeing key milestones and ensuring any plan provides room for early experimentation of new approaches.

  • Working with Product Managers to understand their roadmaps and share design ideas.

  • Collaborating with business stakeholders, end-users, and product teams to understand current issues, coordinating the analysis of associated business processes, and building architectural decisions based on data gathered.

  • Understanding the enterprise software marketplace, defining build vs buy options and evaluating potential suppliers - covering functional and non-functional scope, technical integration, and commercial criteria.

  • Engaging with our existing technology partners to understand their products and identify opportunities where we can use them to advance our own technical capabilities and optimise costs.

  • Encouraging teams to work independently while providing enough guidance to ensure good technical decisions are made and architectural consistency is maintained.

We’re looking for someone who

  • Translates business goals into technology solutions, identifying opportunities and anticipating future need.

  • Understands key enterprise integration patterns and when to use them.

  • Looks to drive architectural level improvements, while also keen to be involved in hands-on implementation.

  • Has commercial experience designing business process solutions, across highly distributed architectures.

  • Can share architectural ideas confidently and clearly to a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Encourages contributions from everyone and actively seeks to be inclusive in design decisions.

Ideally, we’re looking for someone with the following technology background:

  • Excellent knowledge of the enterprise software landscape.

  • Experience working with CRM, BPM, payments, and/or ticketing systems.

  • Knowledge of the Java application stack, particularly with Spring.

  • Experience with REST and/or GraphQL API design.

  • Experience with relational and noSQL datastores.

  • Experience with testing tools and promoting TDD best-practices.

  • Knowledge of Docker, cloud platforms, and/or other deployment models.
