Karen Bakker began their career in 1999 as a Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford. Karen then joined The University of British Columbia in 2002, first as an Assistant Professor, then as an Associate Professor, Canada Research Chair, Co-Director of the Program on Water Governance, and finally as a Professor. In 2015, they became an Annenberg Fellow in Communication and Cox Visiting Professor at Stanford University. In 2017, they took on the role of Vice President Strategy at Riipen.
Karen Bakker earned their Bachelor of Arts & Science from McMaster University between 1990 and 1995. Karen then went on to the University of Oxford, where they were a Rhodes Scholar from 1995 to 1999 and earned their PhD during that time.
