Chad Williams possesses extensive experience in geotechnical engineering and mining operations. Currently serving as an Advisor at the University of Arizona since September 2018, Chad advises on new coursework and research at the Geotechnical Center of Excellence. In parallel, Chad holds the position of Assistant Director at Rio Tinto's Geotechnical Center of Excellence since July 2021, after previously serving as Principal Geotechnical Engineer and Geotechnical Superintendent, where Chad successfully led teams on various projects, including managing pit wall instability and overseeing significant expansion studies. Chad's career started with multiple internships at companies such as Alpha Natural Resources and Patriot Coal Corporation, culminating in a PhD from the University of Arizona and advanced degrees from Virginia Tech in geotechnical and mining engineering.
