Shelly Reed, P.E.

Digitization Robotics Manager at Ripcord

Shelly Reed, P.E. has worked in the engineering field since 1998. Shelly began their career at RH USA, Inc. as a Senior Development Engineer, where they led the design, development, and implementation of a large number of mechanical projects. Shelly then moved to Clarity Medical Systems, Inc. in 2005, where they designed, in SolidWorks, mechanical and opto-mechanical components and assemblies for aberrometer and retinal imaging devices, as well as created an autofocus lens system and a system to mount and align the device to third party surgical microscopes. In 2015, Shelly joined Cerebrotech Medical Systems as a Mechanical Engineering Manager, successfully leading the mechanical engineering group to bring a radio frequency (RF) brain scanner device from initial concept to clinical trials. Shelly then moved to Matternet Inc. in 2020, where they served as a Staff Mechanical Engineer and led Station mechanical efforts. Most recently, Shelly joined Ripcord in 2021 as a Digitization Robotics Manager and Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer. In their role, they led an effort to redesign the robot end of arm tool to expand its capabilities, increase processing speed, reduce content damage, and increase machine-to-operator ratio. Shelly also refined the mechanics of automatic staple removal tools to reduce content damage, increase processing speed, and allow for less operator intervention.

Shelly Reed, P.E. obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley between 1987 and 1994. Shelly is also a Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer, certified by the Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.
