Tim Carstens

Tim Carstens has a diverse background in computer security, research, and engineering. Tim most recently worked as a Principal Engineer at Risc0 starting in 2022. Prior to that, they were a Senior Software Engineer at Facebook from 2020 to 2021, where they focused on developing private approaches to Ads measurement using modern Privacy Enhancing Technologies.

From 2017 to 2020, Carstens served as the Acting Director at Cyber Independent Testing Laboratory, where they worked towards creating a fair and safe software marketplace for consumers. Before that, they were an Applied Mathematics Researcher at Inverse Limit from 2013 to 2020, leading successful research and development projects in computer security and consumer electronics for clients such as Google, Stripe, and DARPA.

Carstens also has experience as a Computer Security Specialist at Leviathan Security Group from 2011 to 2013, where they contributed to the development of an intrusion detection system and briefed executive branch staff on its design and efficacy. Earlier in their career, they worked as a Lecturer at the University of Utah from 2008 to 2010, teaching in the Department of Mathematics.
