Twenty years ago, Robin Goland, MD, J. Merrill Eastman Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at Columbia University, began one of the nation’s most successful efforts to advance patient care and research in diabetes. The Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia, co-directed by Dr. Goland along with Dr. Rudy Leibel, combines premier patient care for more than 14,000 children and adults with diabetes along with world-class diabetes research programs. Dr. Goland, a graduate of Harvard and Columbia, has 3 children: Garrett, a Mathematics teacher at a Brooklyn charter high school; Daniel, a Riverview graduate and member of the Halyard program who works at the Daily Paper restaurant in Hyannis (a job he has had for 12 years!); and Tina, a Riverview School teacher.
