Hesham El Ganainy, PhD, PE, GE has a diverse work experience in the field of geotechnical engineering. Hesham currently serves as the Director of Geotechnical Engineering at RIZZO International, Inc. Hesham has also been a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Geotechnical and Transportation Engineering since 2015. Prior to their current role, Hesham worked as a Senior Geotechnical Consultant at Itasca Consulting Group, Inc. and as a Geotechnical Project Engineer at Langan Engineering & Environmental Services. Hesham has also held various positions at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc., including Consulting Engineer, Senior Staff I, and Staff II. Hesham has experience in hydropower and nuclear power generation as an Engineer at RIZZO Associates. Hesham has also worked as a Project Manager at Geotech Engineering and Testing and as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In the early stages of their career, Hesham served as a Teaching Assistant at the Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University, Egypt.
Hesham El Ganainy, PhD, PE, GE has a strong educational background in earthquake engineering and civil engineering. Hesham earned their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Earthquake Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute between 2008 and 2012. Prior to that, they completed their Master's Degree in Earthquake Engineering at Western University from 2006 to 2008. Hesham started their educational journey by obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from Alexandria University, which they completed from 1999 to 2004.
In addition to their academic qualifications, Hesham has also obtained several certifications to enhance their professional expertise. In December 2021, they acquired the certification of Geotechnical Engineer from the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists. Additionally, in May 2015, they obtained the certification of Professional Engineer - Civil from the same institution. These certifications further attest to Hesham's expertise and proficiency in the fields of geotechnical engineering and civil engineering.
