Thomas (Tom) King is an attorney with Robertson Anschutz Vetters, LLC. His practice is focused on federal financial services-related regulatory and compliance-related issues. He advises small and medium-sized mortgage and consumer lenders and servicers on a broad variety of topics including, among others, implementation of Dodd-Frank Act requirements, compliance program development and management, examination preparation, employee regulatory compliance training, and general counseling, transactional work, and loan level advice.
Prior to re-joining Robertson Anschutz Vetters, LLC, Mr. King was Vice President and Chief Regulatory Counsel for CoreLogic, Inc where he was responsible for providing legal guidance and support for: all regulatory matters across the company; tracking, analyzing, advising on, and lobbying with respect to proposed federal and state legislation and regulation affecting the company’s operations; providing direct legal support to the company’s compliance, enterprise risk management, and data security functions; obtaining and maintaining state licenses and registrations; managing relationships with prudential regulators; and for providing general legal support to the company’s heavily regulated businesses.
Before joining CoreLogic in June 2010, Tom spent 10 years as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel of Fannie Mae where he was responsible for the delivery of legal support for Fannie Mae’s Single Family Business. Areas of responsibility included support for the purchase and securitization of single-family loans; servicing and default management; quality control and repurchases; fair lending and consumer regulatory functions; housing goals and underserved and minority outreach initiatives; product development; development of automated underwriting solutions and other technologies; and production of marketing and communications materials. In addition, he was responsible for managing relationships with Fannie Mae’s housing and community advocacy partners as well as for tracking, analyzing, and advising on state and federal legislative and regulatory developments affecting Fannie Mae’s Single Family Business.
Previously, Tom was general counsel of Old Kent Mortgage Company where he was responsible for the delivery of all legal services for this nationwide retail and wholesale, prime and subprime mortgage lender. He was also responsible for the regulatory compliance and fair-lending functions at Old Kent.
King was also with the law firm of Robertson & Anschutz, Houston, Texas, and was senior vice president, general counsel and secretary for two subsidiaries of Stewart Title Company. King also spent six years as Vice President, Secretary and Chief Compliance Counsel for PNC Mortgage Corp. of America and fourteen years as Vice President and Senior Counsel for Michigan National Corporation.
King has a juris doctorate, cum laude, from The Thomas M. Cooley Law School where he was notes editor of the school’s law review. He has a bachelor of science from Michigan State University with majors in Psychology, Sociology and Political Science.
