John Avritt, PhD

John Avritt, PhD has a diverse work experience in counseling and mental health. John is the owner of The Mindset Counseling Group since July 2015. In 2021, they became a Robin Coach and a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor. Previously, they worked as a Master Resiliency Trainer at AFSC/Magellan Federal from July 2020 to August 2022. Before that, they served as a Counselor at Copperas Cove HS from August 2003 to October 2019. John also worked as a Coordinator of Counseling Services at Texas State Technical College from November 2018 to May 2019 and as an LPC-Intern at Pathways Group Counseling Center from November 2013 to May 2015.

John Avritt, PhD, obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Counselor Education/School Counseling and Guidance Services from Texas Tech University, where they studied from 2016 to 2021. Prior to their doctoral studies, John earned a Master of Education (MEd) degree in Counseling from Texas A&M-Central Texas, completing their studies between 2011 and 2013. Before that, they pursued a Master of Education (MEd) degree in Sport Psychology at The University of Texas Permian Basin from 2008 to 2011. John's educational journey began at The University of Texas at Austin, where they earned their Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science, attending from 1990 to 1998.

In addition to their formal education, John holds several certifications. John is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Iowa, a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas, and a Registered Addiction Specialist (RAS) from the Breining Institute.
