Raymond J. Carta

Raymond Carta is a member of Robinson+Cole’s Managed Care + Employee Benefits Litigation Group. He litigates disputes related to group welfare benefits, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), health insurance, disability insurance, and life insurance coverage.

Raymond has extensive experience handling a range of complex and sophisticated civil litigation matters. His experience includes trying both jury and bench trials as first and second chairs as well as drafting and successfully arguing motions to dismiss, to strike, for summary judgment, and in limine, for various insurance defense matters before the U.S. District Court, the Superior Court, and the Appellate Court.

Raymond’s background includes resolving numerous cases through arbitrations, mediations, and pre-trial conferences throughout Connecticut, and conducting depositions of parties, fact witnesses, and expert witnesses. He has managed numerous litigation files from inception to trial, including making demands for and issuing responses to demands for discovery in the Superior Court and in the U.S. District Court. Raymond has also conducted investigations into claims prior to litigation, interviewing various fact witnesses and medical professionals to defend and evaluate possible lawsuits.

While in law school, Raymond was a member of the Moot Court Board and was awarded the prize of “Best Oralist” for the Hastie Moot Court Competition. He also was awarded the CALI Award in Lawyering Process and Corporate Finance. Raymond has worked as a judicial intern for the Honorable Vanessa Bryant and the Honorable Dominic Squatrito in the U.S. District Court of Connecticut. His legal experience includes practicing with a Hartford firm specializing in the defense of workers’ compensation claims and civil litigation cases.

Raymond was selected as a Rising Star in the Connecticut Super Lawyers list from 2019 to 2021. He has also volunteered with local organizations in Stamford, even serving as the President of a non-profit childcare center.
