Keith Akre

Trustee at Rockford University

Keith Akre is currently a trustee at Rockford University, and previously held positions as an adjunct professor and portfolio manager. Keith has been teaching investments and finance classes for the Adult Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Management Studies (BSMS) program at Rockford University since February 2013. Prior to that, Keith was a portfolio manager at Midland States Bank from November 2012 to November 2017, where they were responsible for managing fully diversified investment portfolios for individual, trust, and institutional clients. Keith was also a member of the Trust Investment Committee, determining investment policy for the Wealth Management department as well as analyzing and selecting appropriate mutual funds, ETFs, and stocks for approved use. Keith began their career as a portfolio manager at Northern Trust in January 2007, where they managed investment portfolios for over 200 clients including personal clients, trust clients, foundations, and endowments. At Northern Trust, Keith utilized equity, fixed income, real-assets, and absolute return products to construct fully diversified portfolios designed to fulfill specific client needs and goals.

Keith Akre has an MBA in Finance from Western Illinois University, a BBA in Finance, French, and International Business from Western Illinois University, and a certification in Financial Planning from CFP Board. Keith also has a certification in Chartered Financial Analyst from CFA Institute and a certification in Competent Communicator from Toastmasters International.
