Caitlin Smith

Manager at RMI

Caitlin is the Manager of RMI’s Carbon Markets team. She helps guide the team’s research, analysis, partnerships, and strategies to examine the role of technologies such as distributed ledger, remote sensing, and machine learning in building a trustworthy voluntary carbon market.

A Boulder native, Caitlin brings a dynamic and international background to the Carbon Markets team. She has examined public climate finance issues on behalf of the United States Department of the Treasury, WRI’s Sustainable Finance Center, and as an embedded advisor with the Fijian Ministry of Economy. The pandemic hit one year into what was supposed to be three years living in Suva, Fiji, bringing Caitlin back to Boulder, where she quickly settled into escaping to the mountains, taking up quirky volunteer roles with First Congregational UCC, learning to rock climb, and engaging in opportunistic lumberjacking (aka fire mitigation) at her parents’ mountain cabin. Caitlin’s dog, Deja, was an honorary member of most WRI and Fiji teams and is keen to reprise that role at RMI.
