Matt Hughes

Deputy Director, Editorial Strategy at Roosevelt Institute

Matt Hughes has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Matt started their career as an intern at the United States Senate in the Office of US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. Matt then interned at the Mayor's Office of Veterans' Affairs in the Office of the Mayor of New York City. After that, they worked as a paralegal at Hawkins Delafield & Wood LLP.

In 2017, Matt joined Columbia University in the City of New York as a research assistant in the Office of Joseph E. Stiglitz. Matt continued their educational journey at Columbia | SIPA in 2018, where they worked as a teaching assistant.

During this time, Matt also gained experience in the consulting and research fields. Matt worked as a graduate consultant at Alto Analytics and later became a junior research fellow at the Roosevelt Institute. In 2019, they transitioned to the Roosevelt Institute as an editorial manager, responsible for overseeing editorial strategy. Matt then progressed to the role of senior manager, and currently serves as the deputy director of editorial strategy.

Matt Hughes has a strong educational background. Matt earned a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from Columbia University, specializing in Urban Policy, Technology, Media, and Communications, and Management. Matt attended Columbia University from 2017 to 2019. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Economics and Politics at New York University, where they studied from 2010 to 2014. In addition to their formal education, Matt also obtained a Certificate of Completion in Data Visualization for Storytellers from the Berkeley Advanced Media Institute in March 2023.
