Roots Community Health Center
Mayra Reyes is a healthcare professional with diverse experience in clinical services and education. Currently serving as Clinical Services Coordinator at Roots Community Health Center since December 2020, Mayra has held multiple roles including Clinical Program Coordinator and Patient Services Specialist. Prior experience includes Operations Coordinator and Vehicle Service Technician at American Medical Response, and Chief Scribe for the Stanford Clinical Observation and Medical Transcription (COMET) program where responsibilities included overseeing a team of scribes and managing patient flow at various clinics. Mayra has also contributed to education as an InterAct English Teacher and engaged in significant field research on traditional medicine in Mexico. A graduate from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology, and having pursued studies in Biology at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Mayra showcases a strong background in both healthcare and academic research.
Roots Community Health Center
Roots Community Health Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to reducing health disparities in East Oakland, California. Roots is the first community health center in East Oakland to provide physician care at patient homes and residential facilities. Roots Community Health Center celebrated the opening of its new facility at 9925 International Blvd. in March of 2011. Our mission The mission of Roots Community Health Center is to uplift those impacted by systematic inequities and poverty by providing culturally responsive, comprehensive healthcare, behavioral health, and wraparound services; identifying and addressing root causes of illness and suffering; and emphasizing self-sufficiency and community empowerment. Roots Community Health Center accomplishes its mission by providing top-quality healthcare, conducting community-based participatory research, and offering opportunities for rehabilitation, education, training, and employment to reduce poverty and dependency in our community. Roots implements its programs and services while honoring the “roots” of culture, heritage, and tradition; by providing unprecedented access to services; by remaining community-aware and community-responsive; and by establishing partnerships to ensure a more efficient continuum of care in Oakland.
