Bret Dawson

Director of Engineering at Rose Rocket

Bret Dawson has worked in the technology industry since 1997. Bret began their career at CBC as a Web Content Manager, where they were part of the original team in the unit that would become CBC Digital Operations. Bret's key editorial tasks included repurposing current affairs TV content for the text-and-still-pictures Web of the 1990s and video editing. In 1999, they joined ExtendMedia as a Producer to plan and develop CTVSportsnet.com.

In 2000, they moved to Rogers Sportsnet as a Senior Editor, where they led the editorial team through the launch and early days of Sportsnet.ca. Bret was responsible for introducing editorial cartooning and humourous weekly NFL + CFL picks. In 2003, they became a Producer at Pectopah Productions Inc., where their job involved building relationships with clients and contractors, technical and business analysis, and writing code for both the front and back end.

In 2014, they joined iNTERFACEWARE as Vice President of Product Development, where they were responsible for leading development of iNTERFACEWARE's flagship software and bringing Iguana 6 to launch. In 2019, they moved to Rose Rocket as an Engineering Manager and Integrations Lead. As Engineering Manager, they were responsible for Product and Service Excellence (PSX), which is the most customer-facing of the engineering teams at Rose Rocket. As Integrations Lead, they worked to get the balance right between code and APIs and technical specifications, and also to build company-wide understanding of the process and the practice.

Bret Dawson attended Toronto Metropolitan University from 1993 to 1995, where they earned a BAA in Journalism. Bret then attended the University of Saskatchewan from 1988 to 1992, graduating with a BA (Cum Laude) in English.
