David Ross

Chairman & CEO at Ross Video

As you might expect, David has been surrounded by engineering, business, and production switchers his entire life.

David began programming in the very early days of personal computers in 1975 at the age of nine. While in high school, he won three major engineering competitions at the national level with projects involving real time programming and computer graphics, including some significant early work on 3D stereoscopic graphics.

During university, he had the opportunity to work at Ross Video developing inventory control software, manufacturing test software, production switcher hardware and software, and even received his first patent shared with his father for the innovative Downstream Multi-Keyer used on our previous line of analog production switchers. He also had the opportunity to help develop a DVE at Electrohome and design a simple tape editing system at the CBC. David graduated university with a heavy business emphasis and a degree in Computer Engineering.

David began working full time at Ross Video in 1991 managing all switcher product development and working closely with the sales and marketing team. David was later promoted to Director, Product Development where he became responsible for all product development in the company and then to Executive Vice President, followed by a promotion to President, and now to CEO in April of 2006.

In November 2005, David also assumed the position of Chairman of the Board and is the majority shareholder of Ross Video.

David has seen Ross Video’s sales grow at an average cumulative rate of about 17% per year since he joined in 1991. Due to the successes of Ross Video, David was named “CEO of the Year” for Ottawa in 2016, and has twice been a finalist for Entrepreneur of the Year for the Canadian Province of Ontario. David also received his first Emmy in 2016 for his part in the creation of the openGear platform.

In 2017, David was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Ottawa for his achievements in Engineering and Business.

David currently enjoys competing in triathlon sports and playing hockey badly. He is happily married with two daughters, and has two cute rescue dogs.
