Dan Blumgart

Dan Blumgart has extensive work experience in various research and conservation roles. Dan worked as a Researcher PHD Student at Rothamsted Research from 2016 onwards. Prior to that, they served as the Terrestrial Science Manager at the Madagascar Research and Conservation Institute (MRCI) from November 2014 to October 2015. At MRCI, they coordinated ecological research and conservation work.

Before joining MRCI, they worked at the University of Exeter, where they served as a Taxonomic Support Assistant from July 2013 to September 2014. In this role, they identified invertebrates sampled from experimental field sites. During their time at the University of Exeter, Dan also completed an MSc in Applied Ecology, where they conducted research projects on woodland habitat surveys and ecological research.

Dan's work experience also includes a role as an Entomological Assistant at the Natural History Museum, where they identified and sorted samples of Hymenoptera and discovered a new species of parasitic wasp. In addition, they worked as a Waiter and Barman at Smuggler's Cottage, a high-pressure restaurant job.

Before transitioning into research and conservation work, Dan gained experience in the healthcare sector as a Healthcare Assistant at the NHS, where they supported medical staff in the operating theaters.

Dan Blumgart's education history begins with a Foundation Year in Science at the University of East Anglia in 2009 and 2010. Dan then went on to the University of Exeter, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Conservation Biology and Ecology from 2010 to 2013. Following this, Dan pursued a Master of Science (MSc) in Applied Ecology at the University of Exeter from 2013 to 2014. Finally, they completed their highest level of education, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Ecology from Lancaster University from 2016 to 2020.
