Ian Underwood

Panel Member And Mentor at Royal Academy of Engineering

Ian Underwood has extensive experience in academia and industry, primarily at The University of Edinburgh, where roles have included Deputy Director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Intelligent Sensing & Measurement, Director of International Partnerships at the School of Engineering, and Director of several research initiatives. Ian also engages in voluntary work with the Society For Information Display as Publications Chair and serves as a panel member and mentor for the Royal Academy of Engineering. Past positions include Chairman at pureLiFi Ltd, member of the Scottish Science Advisory Council, and co-founder of MicroEmissive Displays Ltd. Ian’s educational background includes a Ph.D. in Applied Optics from The University of Edinburgh, an M.Sc. in Bioengineering from the University of Strathclyde, and a B.Sc. in Natural Philosophy from the University of Glasgow.
