Matt Wilkes

Matt Wilkes has a diverse work experience in the healthcare field. Matt currently works at Current Health as the Director of Clinical Affairs, where they are responsible for implementing virtual care and remote patient monitoring. Matt established a Clinical Research Team that has shown positive clinical outcomes and led on the clinical product during a period of growth and acquisition. Prior to this role, they were the Associate Director of Clinical Affairs at the same company. Before joining Current Health, Matt worked as a Clinical Product Manager at another organization. Matt also held the position of Independent Medical Officer / Visiting Senior Lecturer at the University of Portsmouth, where they oversaw experimental protocols, developed safety procedures, and trained researchers. Before that, they were the Deputy Director of the Diploma in Expedition and Wilderness Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, where they instructed healthcare professionals and helped grow the program. Matt has also founded and led Adventure Medic, a not-for-profit enterprise and community hub. Additionally, they have worked as a Physician in Remote Environments for various organizations and as a Physician in Anaesthesia and Critical Care for the NHS.

Matt Wilkes obtained a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree in Medicine from The University of Edinburgh from 2001 to 2007. Matt then pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Clinical Sciences with a specialization in Mountain Medicine from the University of Leicester from 2013 to 2016. In 2017, they enrolled in the University of Portsmouth and completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Human Performance in Extreme Environments in 2020. Alongside their education, Matt has achieved several certifications, including being a Member of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (MRCEM) from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine in 2016, a Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM) from the Wilderness Medical Society in 2015, a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA) from the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2015, and obtaining their Medical Doctor title from the General Medical Council in 2008.
