Rebecca Hemingway has a diverse range of work experience in the field of weather and climate science. Rebecca began their career at the University of Washington as a Research Assistant, where they used wave times to locate earthquake events near hydrothermal vents. Rebecca then moved on to the University of Southampton, where they worked as a Cashier and later as a Research Assistant, conducting studies on sea level rise using monte carlo simulations and coral records. Hemingway's professional journey continued at the Met Office, where they took on various roles such as Weather Impact Scientist, Strategic Account Manager, and FSD Innovation and Application Lead. Rebecca also served as the Natural Hazards Coordinator, developing the Natural Hazards Partnership website and providing support for associated projects. Hemingway briefly worked as a Senior Policy Advisor at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy before joining the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts. There, they held positions as a User Outreach and Engagement Officer and is currently the User Outreach and Engagement Team Leader. Additionally, Hemingway took on the role of Co-Editor in Chief for Atmospheric Science Letters at the Royal Meteorological Society.
Rebecca Hemingway attended Leeds Girls High School from 1994 to 2008, where they completed their A levels in Geography, Physics, and Biology. Following this, they pursued a Master of Science (MSci) Hons degree in Oceanography at the University of Southampton from 2008 to 2012. Additionally, they had the opportunity to study abroad in 2010 to 2011 at the University of Washington, where they earned a Master of Science (MSc) year abroad degree in Oceanography.
