Robert Varley DSc CDir CMet has a diverse work experience that includes roles such as an International Strategic Consultant for Weather and Climate Services, a Strategic Consultant at EUMETSAT, an International Sectoral Expert for Early Warning and Climate Information Services at the Green Climate Fund, a Vice President and Consultant to the Chief Executive at the Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS), a Scientific Advisor at the Hong Kong Observatory, an Ambassador for Chartered Directors at The Institute of Directors, a Board Trustee and Chair of People and Remuneration Committee and Nominations Committee at YHA (England & Wales), a Board Trustee and Chair of Governance Committee at All We Can, a Board Trustee at Y Care International, and a Visiting Lecturer at the University of East Anglia.

Robert Varley DSc CDir CMet has a diverse education history. In 1980, they enrolled at the University of East Anglia and completed a Bachelor of Science (hons) degree in Environmental Sciences in 1983. Robert then pursued further education in the field of management studies, earning a Post-graduate Diploma from the University of Reading from 1999 to 2003. In 2010, Robert obtained a Diploma in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors (IoD). Finally, in 2016, they were awarded an honorary Doctor of Science degree from the University of East Anglia.
