Dieter De Witte is an Assistant Professor of Applied AI at Universiteit Gent since September 2019, focusing on FAIR data publication and AI enrichment for multimedia objects, collaborating with GLAM institutions to develop innovative applications. In addition to this role, Dieter serves as an AI Project Manager and Developer, facilitating the translation of academic AI research into practical applications, managing external projects, and creating training materials for computer science students. As a Data Steward at Koninklijke Musea voor Schone Kunsten van België, Dieter contributes to the Hensor project, which aims to establish a federated visual search system for artworks across European museums. Previous experience includes serving as Team Lead Data Science at Ordina Belgium and a Big Data Scientist at both imec and Vectr.Consulting, with responsibilities that encompass data science development and workshops on machine learning. Dieter has a PhD in Computer Science from Ghent University and holds a Master's degree in Applied Physics from the same institution.
