Robert Marcus

President at Runit Systems

As a teenager, a number of years before co-founding Runit, Robert was afforded an intimate view of the needs of size-based retailers when he began assisting in his father’s Fila wholesaling business. In 1992, a year before graduating from Rutgers with a degree in Industrial Engineering, Robert established, with a friend, the company that would become Runit Systems, and began creating a DOS-based POS geared specifically to the needs of Shoe, Apparel and Sports retailers.

Always committed to helping Runit clients stay ahead of the curve, Robert was instrumental in making sure Runit achieved a number of firsts in its niche. Runit was the first business of its kind to add the touch-screen interface at the register. Runit was the first to move to Windows, and in 2001, was the first to move to the cloud and offer the power of “real-time” information and off-site software hosting and management to its base of users.

As Runit’s President, and now with more than 20 years of experience working hand-in-hand with specialty retailers, Robert focuses the majority of his time and knowledge “behind the scenes” — on continually upgrading and strengthening the infrastructure underpinning the Runit Cloud, that their thousands of retail users depend upon so heavily.

Furthermore, Robert continues to work in a hands-on fashion with senior members of their support group, not only making himself available to consult with clients when they require more complex advice, but also to make sure he maintains a current understanding of help desk trends and that they’re addressing and resolving any concerning patterns in a timely fashion.

In addition, Robert plays a key role, as always, in product development, working together with the Development team and other senior members of leadership on determining where they need to go next, maintaining his early commitment to taking merchants where others have yet to go.

Outside of Runit, Robert lives with his wife and three children in Manhattan, where he is deeply involved and has fulfilled leadership roles in a number of community-based organizations that strive to assist those in need with sustenance, education and emotional support.
