Cultivation Scientist at Running Tide

Sigurður Trausti Karvelsson has a diverse work experience in the field of scientific research and academia. Sigurður Trausti began their career in 2016 as a Lecturer at Háskóli Íslands, where they taught biochemistry at an undergraduate level and systems biology to both undergraduate and graduate students. Their role as a PhD Student at Háskóli Íslands involved conducting research on modeling the metabolism of breast cells, resulting in multiple scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals. Sigurður Trausti also developed a pipeline for untargeted metabolomic analysis in the laboratory.

In 2021, Karvelsson joined Alvotech as a Scientist, where they focused on the development of computational models for biosimilar-producing processes. Their responsibilities also included data retrieval, manipulation, and analysis. Karvelsson's most recent role is as a Cultivation Scientist at Running Tide, which they started in May 2023.

Sigurður Trausti Karvelsson's education history begins in 2012 when they attended Háskóli Íslands and pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Sigurður Trausti successfully completed the program in 2015. Following this, they continued their education at Háskóli Íslands and obtained a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences, General, from 2015 to 2017. Building on their academic achievements, Sigurður Trausti Karvelsson pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Biomedical Sciences, General, from 2017 to 2022 at Háskóli Íslands.

Additionally, Sigurður Trausti Karvelsson acquired a certification in Neural Networks and Deep Learning from Coursera in September 2021.
