Mark Erwin

Mark Erwin has been with the Ruth Ellis Center since August 2011, starting as Director of Programs and advancing to Director of Development & Advancement in January 2013. In February 2022, following the retirement of the previous Executive Director, the board appointed Erwin as Interim Co-Executive Director. Erwin has also served as a Good Look Panelist for MTV Networks' Look Different Campaign from July 2014 to October 2020 and was a Board Member for the Michigan Network for Youth and Families from October 2013 to September 2016. Additionally, Erwin was an Executive Committee Member for the Runaway and Homeless Youth Regional Alliance from January 2012 to October 2013, which focuses on providing necessary support for vulnerable youth. Educational qualifications include studies at Indiana University Indianapolis, the Institute of Production and Recording, and the Interlochen Arts Academy.

Over a 21+ year history, REC has established a national reputation for quality and innovation in providing trauma-informed services for LGBTQ youth and young adults, with an emphasis on youth of color. What began as a 500-square-foot safe space in Highland Park, MI has evolved into a multi-faceted organization, providing outreach and safety-net services, integrated primary & behavioral health care services and case management, skill-building workshops, HIV prevention programs, family preservation programming, and housing resource. MISSION Creating opportunities with LGBTQ+ young people to build their vision for a positive future. VISION A world where LGBTQ+ young people are safe and supported no matter where they show up.
