Derek Pouliot has a diverse work experience in the insurance industry. Derek started their career as an Actuarial Analyst at Liberty Mutual Insurance in 2006 and eventually moved up to become a Reserving Manager, where they managed a team of 7 actuaries/analysts and oversaw the quarterly reserve analysis for various commercial lines of business.

In 2013, Derek became an International Actuary at Liberty Mutual Insurance, where they managed the reserve analysis for Personal and Commercial lines of business in the Republic of Ireland. Derek also recruited and led an actuarial reserving team for the Republic of Ireland and investigated the potential profitability and remediation plan for DUAL, an international managing general agent.

In 2014, Derek became the Pricing Manager at Liberty Mutual Insurance, where they directly managed a team of 5 pricing actuaries/analysts and coordinated actuarial regulatory filing support for a $3 billion region in the southeast USA.

In 2016, Derek joined FBD Insurance as the Chief Actuary. In this role, they directly managed a staff of 5 actuaries/analysts and provided oversight for a company actuarial staff of 15. Derek projected company reserves, assessed and improved the company's underwriting approach, reinsurance cover, risk management, and reserving selections, and presented the results and findings to the Board of Directors on a quarterly and annual basis.

Most recently, in 2019, Derek joined Ryan Specialty as the SVP, Chief Risk & Profitability Actuary.

Derek Pouliot earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of New Hampshire in 2006. From 2006 to 2011, they studied Actuarial Science at the Casualty Actuarial Society. Then, from 2011 to 2013, they completed their education in Commercial Insurance at The Institutes, where they earned a CPCU degree.
