Mercedes Rivas

Mercedes Rivas is a seasoned planning professional with extensive experience in urban planning and supervisory roles. Currently serving as a Senior Planner at SAFEbuilt since January 2022, Mercedes previously held positions including Planner II at El Paso County from March 2021 to January 2022, and Senior Planner for the City of San Antonio from November 2014 to March 2021. In these roles, Mercedes developed recommendations on planning and zoning issues, managed staffing for boards and committees, and oversaw the work of subordinate planners. Earlier experience includes work as a Planner and GIS Data Analyst, conducting comprehensive studies and mapping urban vegetation. Mercedes also completed internships focused on community development and environmental compliance, enhancing skills in strategic planning and regulatory frameworks. A graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies and a Minor in Earth Sciences, Mercedes brings a strong academic background to professional endeavors.
