Thomas Yu has a diverse work experience in the fields of bioinformatics and education. Thomas started their career as an intern at Sage Bionetworks, where they gained experience in Python, R, bash, and git. Thomas played a key role in data annotation, R Shiny application development, and executing bioinformatics pipelines. Thomas then progressed to the position of Research Associate, where they led open science data challenge efforts and supported the development of project GENIE. As a Senior Bioinformatics Engineer, they designed and maintained Python packages using the Synapse API and oversaw the deployment and maintenance of challenge infrastructure. Currently, Thomas is an Associate Director - Data Processing and Engineering at Sage Bionetworks, leading the DPE workstream and focusing on designing and building data infrastructure for processing and harmonizing raw data.
