Executive Director, Process And Analytical Development at Sage Therapeutics

Steven Collier has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Steven began their career as a Research Scientist at Zeneca Agrochemicals in 1998. In 1999, they joined GlaxoWellcome as a Process Development Chemist before transitioning to Ultrafine Chemicals Ltd as a Project Team Leader.

In 2001, Collier joined AMRI, where they held roles such as Senior Research Scientist and Team Leader. Steven was responsible for designing and developing safe and scalable processes for APIs, both for external clients and internal projects.

Collier then moved to Codexis in 2008, where they served as the Director of R&D and General Manager for Codexis Laboratories Singapore. Steven managed a multi-cultural team and oversaw various functions, including process R&D, molecular biology, analytical development, and fermentation. Steven also led the Chemical Development team and implemented process design and development improvements.

From 2010 to 2013, Collier worked as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Nanyang Technological University. Steven then joined Johnson Matthey Pharma Services (JMPS), initially as the Director of R&D and Manufacturing, with responsibilities ranging from leading pilot plant operations to managing a large team of scientists and technicians. In 2016, they took on the role of Director of R&D and New Technologies.

Collier's most recent position is with Sage Therapeutics, where they started in 2018 as a Senior Director of Process Development and later became the Executive Director of Process and Analytical Development. Steven has been involved in various project responsibilities, including the development and commercialization of brexanolone and zuranolone. Steven also plays a key role in the collaboration with Biogen and contributes to CMC-related activities.

Throughout their career, Collier has demonstrated strong leadership skills, expert knowledge in process development, and extensive experience in managing teams and cross-functional collaborations.

Steven Collier's education history begins with their undergraduate studies at the University of Liverpool from 1990 to 1994. During this time, they obtained a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry with Industrial Chemistry. Steven continued their academic pursuits at the same institution and completed a PhD in Organic Chemistry from 1994 to 1997.

In terms of further professional development, Steven Collier has obtained several certifications. In 1997, they became a Chartered Chemist (CChem) and a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC). In 2002, they were recognized as a European Chemist (EurChem) by the European Communities Chemistry Council. Steven further earned the title of Chartered Scientist (CSci) in 2004 from the UK Science Council. In 2007, they became a Certified International Project Manager (CIPM) through the American Academy of Project Management. Finally, in 2012, they attained the distinction of Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) from the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Jumping to more recent years, Steven Collier completed the Johnson Matthey Senior Leaders Program at the London Business School from 2016 to 2017. This program focuses on organizational leadership and strategy.
