Heather Buschman

Heather Buschman, PhD, serves as the Senior Director of Communications at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, overseeing a 16-person team responsible for a wide range of communication strategies, including media relations and science communication. Previous positions include Director of Scientific Communications and Media Relations at UC San Diego Extension, where Heather introduced science communication concepts to non-scientific audiences, and Assistant Director of Communications and Media Relations at UC San Diego Health, managing multi-channel campaigns and mentoring communication fellows. Heather's extensive freelance writing experience includes contributions to various reputable organizations. With a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Biotechnology from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and a PhD in Molecular Pathology from UC San Diego, Heather has a strong foundation in both scientific research and effective communication.
