Marina Makarova

Marina Makarova has extensive work experience in project management and process safety in the petroleum industry. Marina started their career at The Royal Institution of Great Britain as a Visiting Scientist in 1989. Marina then worked at the Boreskov Institute of Catalysis as a Staff member from 1987 to 1991. After that, they joined The University of Manchester, Institute of Science and Technology as an Associate in 1991, where they supervised students and conducted research on catalysts.

In 1995, Marina Makarova joined Shell Nederland Raffinaderij B.V. as a Senior Technologist, where they were responsible for project implementation and change management in the refinery. Marina also provided technical services to refinery units and managed the delivery of Basic Design Engineering Packages.

In 2006, they joined Sakhalin Energy as an Operations and Process Safety Support Manager, accountable for the development and implementation of the Process Safety Management System. Marina also managed onshore pipeline issues and ensured optimal interface with lenders.

In 2012, Marina Makarova worked at Shell UK as an Engineering Manager, where they were accountable for project integration and technical assurance of the Gannet Redevelopment project. Marina also managed stakeholders, performed value assurance reviews, and deputized for the Project Manager.

Finally, since 2013, they have been working at Salym Petroleum Development as a Project Engineering Manager, responsible for green and brown field capital projects. Marina leads a directorate of approximately 100 staff and 20+ contractors. Marina'sresponsibilities include ensuring HSE compliance, delivering projects to target cost and schedule, and providing technical assurance through the Technical Authorities system. Marina is also involved in operational readiness, commissioning activities, and QA/QC in capital projects.

Marina Makarova pursued their education in the field of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. Marina first attended Novosibirsk State University (NSU) from 1977 to 1982, where they earned their Master's degree. Marina then went on to further their studies at the Semenov Institute of Chemical Physics in Moscow from 1983 to 1987, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Physical Chemistry.
