Jim Plaia has over 25 years of experience in engineering and metallurgy. Jim worked as a Senior Research and Development Engineer at Samson Rope Technologies starting in 2013. Prior to that, they worked at Zinc Air as a Staff Engineer, The NanoSteel Company as a Metallurgist, ATK as a Design Engineer/Material Specialist and Program Manager for over 14 years, Brush Wellman as a Plate Process Engineer, and Wellstream as a Project Engineer/Metallurgist. At Wellstream, they designed flexible pipe designs for use in the oil, gas, and water transportation industry. Jim also selected metals and coatings based on customer-specified requirements for strength, corrosion resistance, and fatigue life. Overall, their experience has spanned a variety of industries and roles within engineering and metallurgy.
Jim Plaia obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Florida in the period between 1986 to 1990. Jim later got a Master of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the same university between 1990 to 1992.
