Brian Fleury is in his fourth season with the 49ers and first as the team's tight ends coach. He spent the 2020-21 seasons as an offensive quality control coach and the 2019 season as a defensive quality control coach with the team. He joined San Francisco after spending the previous three years with the Miami Dolphins as the team's football research analyst (2016) and director of football research (2017-18).
In 2021 working with the tight ends, Fleury saw TE George Kittle rank second on the team with 71 receptions for 910 yards and six touchdowns while earning a trip to the Pro Bowl. The year prior, Kittle ranked third on the team with 48 receptions for 634 yards and two touchdowns, while TE Jordan Reed tallied 26 receptions for 231 yards and four touchdowns. TE Ross Dwelley played in all 16 games (nine starts) and set single-season career-highs in receptions (19) and receiving yards (245).
