Hayley Upshaw

Deputy Public Defender at San Francisco Public Defender's Office

Hayley Upshaw is a seasoned attorney with extensive experience in advocating for immigrant youth and detained immigrants. Currently serving as a Deputy Public Defender at the San Francisco Public Defender's Office since May 2017, Upshaw specializes in providing deportation defense through the Immigration Defense Unit. Prior to this role, Upshaw spent nearly nine years as a Senior Staff Attorney at Legal Services for Children, where representation primarily focused on immigrant youth in various legal proceedings. Additional experience includes positions as a Clinical Student at the Bluhm Legal Clinic, a Legal Intern at the National Center for Youth Law, Legal Assistance Foundation, and Legal Aid Society, and teaching at San Antonio Elementary School. Hayley Upshaw holds a Juris Doctor from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature from the University of Chicago.
