Debbie Chalmers

Dean of Students at San Juan College

Debbie Chalmers joined San Juan College in 2019 as the Director of TRIO Student Support Services. She was promoted to the Dean of Students in August 2020. Working closely with the Vice President for Student Services, Chalmers leads the Office of Admissions to support the strategic enrollment goals of the College by directing the admission processes, including recruitment, application processing, yield analysis, and reporting. She also oversees Housing and Residence Life, Mental Health Counseling, Behavioral Intervention Team, Student Conduct and advises Associated Students.

Prior to joining SJC, Chalmers served as the Director of Housing and Residence Life for East Central University (ECU) in Oklahoma where she oversaw the daily operations of residential facilities housing 1,275 students. Moreover, during her tenure at ECU she collaborated with architects, construction project manager and the university committee to design, construct, furnish and organize the opening of a new residence hall for an additional 125 residents. She has previously worked in housing for Wichita State University, University of Tennessee and Oklahoma State University.

Chalmers earned both her Bachelor of Arts in History and Master of Science in Counseling and Student Personnel from Oklahoma State University and brings more than 20 years of higher education experience to this position.
