Ellen B Shields PhD has extensive experience in education, nonprofit consulting, and volunteer work. Currently serving at Sanctuary for Families since September 2015, Ellen engages in ESL curriculum development, conducts mock interviews, and provides translations and legal interpretations in Spanish and English. Ellen has been a Board Trustee at Hagedorn Little Village School since 2013 and operates as a not-for-profit consultant since July 2012, focusing on grant review and evaluation. Previous roles include participation in the Grant Review Committee for the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island and serving as a Vestry Member at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Ellen also has a significant background in public school administration as the Director of LOTE/ESL/FLES at North Shore School District from 1987 to 2012, overseeing teacher training and supervision. Early career experience includes trilingual translation and reporting for the UNDP. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Educational Leadership and Administration from NYU, as well as an MA in Foreign Language and Teaching and a BA in Spanish and French from Hofstra University.
