Maximilian Ruf

Staff Software Architect, Medical Device Platform at SandboxAQ

Maximilian Ruf has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of quantum research and computing. In 2022, they joined SandboxAQ as a Quantum Research Scientist, where they combine AI and quantum technology to solve complex societal problems. Prior to this, from 2017 to 2021, Maximilian worked as a PhD Candidate in Quantum Communication and Computing at QuTech, a research institute focused on quantum computing and the quantum internet. During their time at QuTech, they played a crucial role in developing next-generation platforms for quantum networks.

Before their PhD, Maximilian worked as a Research Assistant at McGill University's Quantum Optics and Quantum Sensing Lab from 2014 to 2016. Maximilian'swork there primarily involved designing and implementing fiber-based Fabry-Perot microcavities for diamond quantum optics experiments.

In 2012, Maximilian served as a Student Assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics, gaining valuable experience in the field. Additionally, they worked as a Summer Research Intern at McGill University in 2013, where they designed and built a setup for laser ablating optical fibers.

Maximilian Ruf's earlier work experience includes an internship at Siemens Healthineers in 2011, where they gained exposure to the industry. Overall, their work experience showcases their expertise and contributions to the advancement of quantum research and technology.

Maximilian Ruf's education history begins with their completion of Abitur at Heinrich-Schliemann-Gymnasium Fürth from 2002 to 2011. From 2011 to 2014, they pursued a BSc in Physics at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. Following that, they obtained an MSc in Physics from McGill University between 2014 and 2016. Most recently, Maximilian completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Quantum Networks from Delft University of Technology, starting in 2017 and finishing in 2021. Additionally, they possess additional certifications, including a Google Project Management Professional Certificate obtained in March 2023 and a Glider Pilot License (GPL) acquired from Luftfahrt-Bundesamt in October 2008.
