Debbie Figueroa

Debbie Figueroa, PhD, FACMG, serves as the Director at the Medical Genetics Laboratory at Sanford Health since June 2020, overseeing the review and sign-out of various genetic test results and managing the development of clinical diagnostic tests. Prior experience includes a Fellowship at the National Human Genome Research Institute and a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, focusing on the characterization of apolipoprotein pathways in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Debbie has also held positions as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Florida State University, where research involved characterizing the X-linked macrosatellite repeat DXZ4 in human embryonic stem cells, and as a Molecular Biology Graduate Student, developing cytogenetic FISH maps for maize chromosomes. Educational credentials include a PhD and Bachelor of Science in Biology from Florida State University.
