Robert Rodriguez has extensive law enforcement experience, currently serving as Acting Chief of Police at the Santa Ana Police Department since November 2000, with previous roles including Assistant Chief and Deputy Chief. Rodriguez has overseen both the Field Operations Bureau, which includes Patrol and Traffic, and the Investigations Bureau, addressing crimes against persons and property. Additional responsibilities include project management for the Chief of Police, oversight of Internal Affairs, and facilitation of the Public Information Office. Rodriguez also contributes to professional development as an Adjunct Faculty Instructor with Law Enforcement Professional Standards and as a Part-Time Faculty member at Santa Ana Community College. Academic credentials include a Master of Public Administration and training in Public Safety Leadership from the University of Southern California, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Chapman University. Prior experience includes service as a Police Officer with the LAPD and as a Marine in the United States Marine Corps.

The Santa Ana Police Department is a full service police department with a full operational jail staffed by civilian Correction Officers. Santa Ana Police Department is comprised of more than 300 officers and over 200 civilian employees. The department currently has 50 fully funded sworn officer vacancies and numerous civilian vacancies. The opportunity to join a police department where you will rapidly gain seniority has never been greater. We anticipate hiring at least 125 sworn officers over the next 3 years to fill current vacancies and anticipated retirements. The Santa Ana Police Department handles approximately 11,000 calls for service each month and provides full service operations in various divisions such as: Patrol, Traffic, General Investigations, Special Investigations, Training and others.
