Mike Robbat has over 18 years of experience in the legal and business development fields. Mike began their career in 2003 as an Associate at McNamara Koenig & McCarthy, PC, where they represented companies in M&A, a venture capital firm in the management of a portfolio of more than 25 companies in funds with >$300 million invested, and growth-stage companies regarding general business matters and entity formation. In 2006, they moved to Zero Stage Capital as Counsel, where they were involved extensively in portfolio management and transactional for a 25 year old VC fund with 3 active funds and dozens of companies across life sciences, tech and cleantech. In 2007, they joined Bingham McCutchen LLP as an Associate, representing public and private companies in M&A transactions and securities filings, and venture capital firms and venture-backed companies in financings.
In 2009, Mike Robbat moved to BioEquity Capital as Corporate Counsel, where they were the sole legal counsel for a healthcare-focused direct secondary venture capital firm. Mike was responsible for all legal matters, including financing, nondisclosure and other agreements, fund partnerships, corporate governance, legal diligence, and coordination of outside counsel. In 2011, they took a role as VP of Business Operations and US Counsel at Scion Medical Technologies, where they were the sole legal counsel for a acquisitive global medical device company with manufacturing, distribution and regulatory expertise in the US and China. Mike sourced, diligenced and consummated 5 acquisitions in 18 months.
In 2013, Mike Robbat joined Foley Hoag as a Senior Associate, advising companies and venture capital firms on financings, M&A and general corporate matters and originating seven-figures in fees. In 2016, they became a Program Leader for the Startup Leadership Program. In 2017, they moved to Seaport Diagnostics as General Counsel & VP, Business Development, where they were involved in nearly all aspects of the company's business, including legal, BD, M&A, operations, strategy, partnerships, IP, dispute resolution, fundraising, regulatory, marketing, sponsorships, relationship management, etc. Mike is currently employed as General Counsel at Sapphiros, a position they have held since 2021.
Mike Robbat holds a JD from Boston University School of Law and a B.S. in Sport Management from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Mike also attended Harvard Extension School for Financial Statement Analysis. Mike Robbat's educational background began at Lexington High School in Lexington, MA.
