Jonathan R. Lewis, ICMA-CM, was appointed County Administrator for Sarasota County, effective Jan. 16, 2018, having previously served as Interim County Administrator since December 2017 and as an Assistant County Administrator since April 2017.
Lewis and his wife have two children and have lived in Sarasota County since May of 2011.
Before his appointment to County Administrator, Lewis was employed by the city of North Port, where he served as the City Manager from May of 2011 to April of 2017. He served as the Deputy City Manager of Palm Bay, Florida, from August 2004 to May 2011.He also served as the Assistant Town Manager and Assistant to the Town Manager for the Town of Belleair.
Lewis is a graduate of the University of South Florida, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He earned a Master of Public Administration from the College of Arts and Science at the University of South Florida.
Additionally, he has completed the Senior Executive in State and Local Government Program at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
He is a Credentialed Manager (ICMA) and a full member in good standing with that association. He previously served as President of the Florida City/County Management Association. Additionally, he has also served as President of the Space Coast Public Management Association and the Suncoast Chapter of the American Society of Public Administration. In 2012, he was selected by the Suncoast Chapter of the American Society of Public Administration as their 2012 Outstanding Public Administrator of the Year.
Lewis currently serves as the Chair on the International City/County Management Association's Governmental Affairs and Policy Committee. From 2009 to 2017, he served on the Florida League of Cities policy committee for Finance, Taxation, and Personnel. In 2013, he served on the Florida League of Cities Board of Directors.
