Chief Innovation Officer, Director at Sarcos Robotics

Dr. Fraser Smith serves as the President of Sarcos Robotics, where he oversees product development and manages company operations. He is also intimately involved in the engineering design aspects of all projects currently being undertaken by Sarcos, and continues to be a driving force in the generation of new intellectual property (IP).

Since Dr. Smith began his time with Sarcos in 1988, his technical contributions have entailed leading numerous successful robotics programs, including the Bellagio Fountains project in Las Vegas (225 moving fountains), multiple force-reflecting tele-operated humanoid robots, and the development of 16 robotic dinosaurs currently installed at Universal Studios’ Jurassic Park-The Ride in California.

Prior to joining Sarcos, Dr. Smith’s early work dealt with issues in fracture mechanics, damage tolerance, fatigue testing and design, failure analysis, life prediction, and component and material testing.

Dr. Smith holds more than 50 patents with many more in process. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto, and his Ph.D. from the University of Utah.
