Ms. Barber (Q.C., C.Dir.) has served as the Chair of the SaskEnergy Board of Directors since June 2013 and is a member of the Audit and Finance Committee.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree as well as a Bachelor of Laws degree. A partner at McDougall Gauley since 1994, Ms. Barber is one of Canada’s leading practitioners in labour and employment law, achieving the Queen’s Counsel designation in 2008 for her exemplary service to the legal profession. She is designated in the Canadian Lexpert directory as a leading practitioner in labour and in “The Best Lawyers in Canada” in the area of labour and employment law, chosen by her peers across the country. She was also named the Best Lawyers' 2014 Regina Labour and Employment Law "Lawyer of the Year".
In 2000, Ms. Barber was awarded the YWCA Women of Distinction award in the category of “Business, Labour and Professions.” In 2007, she was named by Saskatchewan Business Magazine as a “Woman of Influence” and, in the same year, received the Community Service award from the Canadian Bar Association, Saskatchewan Branch. She was featured in the Summer 2010 edition of “Fine Lifestyles” Magazine as one of five “Women of Influence.”
In 2012, Ms. Barber was named by the Womens’ Executive Network as one of Canada’s Top 100 most powerful women in the category “KPMG Professionals” and, in 2013, she received the Robert and Norma Ferguson Award, one of the “Crowning Achievement Awards” of the University of Regina Alumni Association, for her contributions to the University and to the Alumni Association.
Ms. Barber brings a wealth of experience to the SaskEnergy Board of Directors, having previously served in leadership roles with many of Saskatchewan’s most prominent companies and organizations, including as Chair of Information Services Corporation and as Chair of the University of Regina Board of Governors.
