Sake Alkema

Sake Alkema is an experienced professional in remote sensing and environmental monitoring, currently serving as Operations Lead at Satelligence since September 2019. In this role, Sake oversees the conversion of extensive satellite data into accessible insights on land cover change and carbon emissions. Previous experience includes a position as Remote Sensing Specialist, where Sake developed methods for real-time environmental monitoring, and an internship at IUCN NL focusing on rainforest conservation in Ecuador. Sake's academic background includes two Master's degrees from Wageningen University & Research in Geo-Information Science and Forest and Nature Conservation, complemented by a Bachelor's degree in Forest and Nature Management from Van Hall Larenstein University. Notably, Sake's thesis work has successfully leveraged machine learning for ecological assessment and remote sensing techniques for forest monitoring.
