Bart Read

CTO at Savanta

Bart Read is the current Chief Technical Officer at Savanta. Bart has over fifteen years of experience in software development and has held various positions in the software industry, including software entrepreneur, software developer, product manager, and principal consultant.

Bart Read founded their first company, arcade.ly, in 2001. The company created browser-based games including an early version of Tetris. In 2002, they left the company to join LION bioscience as a software developer. Bart worked there for a year before moving to Cambridge Cognition Ltd as a contract software developer.

In 2004, Bart Read joined Red Gate Software as a software entrepreneur. Bart spent time researching web technologies and looking for opportunities where Red Gate could develop or acquire tooling. Bart also interacted with attendees at community events to learn about web technologies. One of the first projects they worked on was publicising Visual Node, a skunkworks project developed by their colleague Lionel Clarke, for developing and debugging Node.js apps within Visual Studio.

In 2008, Bart Read left Red Gate Software to become the product manager for Lutz Roeder's .NET Reflector. Bart held this position for three years before returning to Red Gate Software in 2011. Bart left Red Gate Software in 2013 to start their own consulting business, bartread.com.

In 2014, Bart Read became the Principal Consultant at bartread.com. Bart consulted on various projects for three years before joining Savanta as the Chief Technical Officer in 2017.

Bart Read has a MSc in Computing Science from Imperial College London and an MSci in Biochemistry and Biological Chemistry from the University of Nottingham.

Their manager is Roger Perowne, CEO. They are on a team with Paul Bath - COO, Nick Baker - Chief Research Officer, and Barbara Gurhan - CFO.
