Shyamal Maharaj is a Senior Policy Advisor at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, focusing on economic policy solutions related to land-use, transport, and infrastructure since July 2023. Previously, Shyamal served as an Economist at Auckland Council, advising on key policy and investment decisions from April 2019 to July 2023, and as a Strategy Consultant at Spring, analyzing impacts of disruptive technology on businesses. Additional experience includes roles at Westpac Institutional Bank conducting macroeconomic analysis, contributing as a Graduate Research Assistant at The University of Auckland on a project with Harvard University professors, and in various editorial and administrative positions. Shyamal holds a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom.) Honours in Economics and a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Finance, Accounting, and Politics, both from The University of Auckland.
